This woman rescues Pit Bulls from certain death. And she needs our help.

You may have seen one of Animal Planet’s highest rated shows – It’s called “Pitbulls and Parolees.” The show is centered around a woman, her four children and a group of parolees who together run Villalobos Rescue Center – the country’s largest rescue facility for Pit Bulls. Everyone at Villalobos is dead set on fighting the perception that Pit Bulls are the pariahs of the dog world, and giving the ones in their care the love they deserve. PetFlow has selected the Villalobos Rescue Center as our first rescue feature, as they certainly need our help.  Please see below, your support and generosity is sincerely appreciated!

From Villalobos Rescue Center:

In August 2012, Villalobos Rescue Center (VRC) had a life changing experience. We moved our entire operation from Los Angeles County, California, where we had been residing for almost 20 years to….New Orleans, Louisiana.  The need for helping Pit Bulls in the state of Louisiana is overwhelming. Though we expected it, we never thought it would be this bad. Because we are now centrally located in the heart of the city of New Orleans (9th Ward), the never ending flow of stray and unwanted Pit Bulls has now become an everyday occurrence. We have an average of 300 dogs on a daily basis.  Since the move to New Orleans, and despite NOT being a public shelter, we are sadly getting in dogs of every breed, shape and size. One thing most have in common is heartworms, which are expensive to treat.

VRC works ceaselessly to give Pit Bulls another chance in life. Each and EVERY dog taken in, gets spayed or neutered, and given any medical treatment necessary. We work patiently to re-acclimatize fearful dogs to the loving care of a human, so that they may eventually be adopted. In some cases, these dogs have never had a kind word or touch, and it is a slow process. After determining temperaments and compatibility factors, we begin that long search for the perfect home.

Everything that goes into saving these dogs has tripled our costs, from vet bills to our food and preventative care (flea and heartworm treatments).   Your donations of food, treats and chews, and flea treatments will directly help every dog in our care and help us continue to keep them comfortable while they wait for that forever home of their own.
