Gastrointestinal Upsets around the Holidays

Did you know that during the holiday season our pets are at risk for a number of gastrointestinal upsets?

It’s true, so it’s best to be prepared in case something like this happens to your pet in the busiest time of the year.

Gastrointestinal upsets include signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and constipation.

If your pet is experiencing signs of gastrointestinal upset, please bring them to the vet to be seen immediately.

WITH CHRISTMAS JUST AROUND THE CORNER, HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER:

  • Do you have house guests who could add extra stress for your pet?
  • Do your house guests know what your pet can and cannot have in their diet?
  • Did your pet get into the trash after a meal?
  • Do you have more sweets around the house than normal?

By controlling certain factors in your pet’s environment and by partnering with your veterinarian, you can be certain that you are doing everything possible to help your dog or cat avoid unnecessary GI upsets, especially around the holiday season.

All of the above can cause digestive upset in our pets around the busy holiday season. Thankfully, Royal Canin has an extensive line of Veterinary Diets because addressing these gastrointestinal upsets can be tough. With Royal Canin’s science-driven Gastrointestinal diets for both cats and dogs, the solution is simple.

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet® Gastrointestinal formulas are highly palatable and help nutritionally support digestive health through the use of prebiotics, omega-3 fatty acidsfrom fish oil, and highly digestible proteins. Antioxidants including vitamins are added to these formulas to help support immune system health in our pets. Soluble and insoluble fibers help support healthy stool quality.

Some GI conditions occur due to circumstances beyond your control, and this is another reason that all cats and dogs should visit a veterinarian at least once a year. With regular physical examinations, your vet may be able to discover a problem before you notice anything is even wrong. Some very serious conditions may require in-depth testing to diagnose, and early diagnosis is important to successful management in most cases.

ROYAL CANIN WAS FOUNDED BY A VETERINARIAN IN 1968

In 1968 Veterinarian Jean Cathary founded Royal Canin in Aimargues, France.  Dr. Cathary had the vision of a pet food company grounded in science; a company based on the principles of acquiring knowledge about pets, maintaining respect for them at all times and, most importantly, creating advanced cat food and dog food made to satisfy the needs of the pet – not the desires of the pet owner.

The Royal Canin vision is still being carried out by daily interaction within the pet industry. Scientists at Royal Canin work directly with professional breeders and veterinarians to further their research efforts. This has allowed Royal Canin to remain at the front of innovation and to bring scientifically proven nutrition to both our cats and dogs.

ANIMAL FIRST PHILOSOPHY

Animal first philosophy drives the science-based approach that puts the cat and dog at the heart of all of the formulation processes. The ingredients used are always selected to optimize the nutritional content of the food, and the quality and selection of these nutrients is a critical component of the overall process.

Veterinary-exclusive diets support a wide range of health issues with formulas that are highly palatable to appeal to cats and dogs. Many of these diets are offered in both wet and dry formulas.

Not only does Royal Canin formulate veterinary-diets for pets who need it, but they specialize in breed-specific pet food for pure breed dogs and some cats too. Through science Royal Canin has been able to revolutionize pet nutrition. For the Veterinary diets, please keep in mind your veterinarian would have to recommend this food for your particular pet; it is not available without a veterinary authorization.
