On Sunday, a massive and fast-moving storm hit Illinois. Winds reached up to 200 miles per hour and many houses were reduced to piles of sticks. The storm triggered multiple tornadoes, killing at least sixteen people. The cost of the damage is estimated at $1 billion, the devastation is simply tremendous and horrifying. Aid is currently on it’s way to the area, however, the last places to receive aid are usually animal shelters. We spoke today to Karly Parker from Project Hope, a No-Kill Animal Shelter which is just 15 miles away from Brookport, where several tornadoes touched down. They are currently caring for 200 animals, and their food stores are nearly empty as they sent much of their supplies directly to those that are in immediate need. Project Hope has 10 volunteers and is working around the clock to ensure that no animal is lost. They have agreed to act as a drop-off point for donations to be distributed to those in dire need. We tried to get in touch with shelters in other hard hit areas like Washington, Illinois, however, their phone lines were not responding.
